A short report from the Strasbourg plenary this week...YES!

Hi everyone!!!

The YES Campaign was present in Strasbourg on Wednesday this week to show to the MEP that we're ready to run a strong YES all across Europe. On the same day the Corbett/Mendez de Vigo report was adopted (as you also saw in the JEF Europe PR yesterday)...

A small group of JEFers and the YES Campaign team had an info stand to present the Campaign and the main organisations behind it (JEF and European Movement) and we've distributed many, many INFO PACK about the YES Campaign.

It was exciting:) We've managed to get a lot of attention, since we're the only one actually caring about showing our support for YES outside the plenary session where the Report was adopted (you'll be able to find it on-line soon). There were many Assistants and MEPs that were clearly showing their stance against the Constitution and even the EU. Among these of course most prominently the UKIP MEPs...And yes, we had a small incident with the
NO side when approaching the plenary with our balloons and promotion materials to hand it to the MEPs coming out.

In addition to the stand we've placed a large balloon in front of the Luise Weiss entrance of the EP and got a good media coverage and especially a lot of attention from the MEPs. We have many funny pictures with Mendez de Vigo, Corbett (he was absolutely great fun), Poettering, Duff, Borrell, Stubb and many more...So in whole it was a great success considering also that the YES Campaign is only growing!

In the coming week we'll have the official launch of the YES Campaign in Brussels on the Schuman Square and also the official launch of the YES website (www.yes-campaign.net). From then on...we START ROLLING and all your help will also be needed!

The pictures from Strasbourg will be soon available on the YES website.

Before I finish, let me thank everyone that helped the YES event in Strasbourg be a success: the JEF Strasbourg "delegation" (Fred, Marie, Bastien, Jean Baptiste and Nina!!!), Lauri and Arielle! It was great fun and
I hope we'll do something similar again.

With all the YES regards from Brussels,

Marko

A short report from the Strasbourg plenary this week...YES!

HI,

Indeed our first concrete action for the YES campaign was a success since we got the support of an important bunch of MEPS including the President of the EP, Mr Borrell himself! He even spoke and took one of our briefing pack on the yes campaign! So don't miss the photos which will be posted soon on JEF Europe's webpage.

Lastly I would like to give a big thank you to JEF Strasbourg!!!

Though the Constitution has been supported by an overwhelming majority of the MEPS, about 74% of them are in favour of its ratification, there is still a hard way to go till it will enter into force.

The vote on the Corbett Mendez de Vigo report in the EP was a clear message to all the Member States to vote in the same manner, but the quite strong and well organised no side should be taken into account as well. The no Campaign seemed to be very well organised and they had not only much more activities (in and outside the plenary) and banners than us but they also manage to get the support from UKIP MEPS, right wing Polish and French MEPS. The irony is that they are building up a pan-European no-campaign, though there actually want to leave the Union.

We have to get stronger and make our voices more heard! The Constitution is in our hands and we have to make sure that it will be ratified. Don't take for granted that this text will be ratified, our role will be essential in the next couples of month and years (since some countries like the UK or Ireland only plan to have their referenda in 2006).

Best greetings from Brussels,

Arielle
